Client: Penrith Lakes Development Cooperation
Project: Southern Wetlands
Location: Castlereagh Street, Castlereagh, NSW
DTM and Orthomosaic of the southern wetlands. An area approximately 80ha in size. Ground Control Points (GCP's) required for Geo-referencing. Completed in 1 day, including ground control point placement.
The Penrith Lakes Development Cooperation contacted Terratest Aero to produce a DTM to assist in the volume measurements for the Southern Wetlands, an area roughly 80ha in size. A traditional survey was not possible due to the quicksand like soils that are in the area. An aerial survey was the safest option.
Due to availability the Phantom 4 pro with its 20MP camera was utilized to collect the 2500+ photographs used to create the terrain model. The multi-rotor platform is better suited to the smaller construction projects however it was able to cover around 15-20ha per flight making it quite versatile for larger sites.
Some sites were inaccessible due to the quicksand like soils. The thick vegetation proved challenging in some locations creating some noise in the terrain model. The conditions on the day were partly cloudy, resulting in lighting variations. Cloud cover is always a challenge in photography based modeling, however the Orthomosaic was able to blend the different lighting when processing the model.
