LiDAR, or Light Detection and Ranging, is a remote sensing method using lasers to measure distances. These can be combined into a point cloud (millions of points) to produce an accurate model which measurements can be taken.
The advantages of LiDAR is that unlike photogrammetry, light can penetrate vegetation to the ground floor. This means you can image detailed vegetation and surface structures that photogrammetry would classify as just a solid object.
Profiles and transects can be created, isolating specific areas to identify topography and drainage patterns. Major soil displacement and movement can also be mapped by overlaying multiple surveys of the same site.
Our LiDAR System is attached to one of the safest drones in the world, the DJI Matrice 600 Pro. Enabling us to conduct quick data capture with the versatility of an aerial platform.
